The Robert H. Halverson Funeral Home has been serving families in Somerset County and surrounding areas for over 50 years with caring and personalized services. Our staff is dedicated to serving each family with the professionalism, dignity and respect they deserve. Halverson Funeral Home was founded in 1958 by Mr. Robert H. Halverson. The building was originally a private residence that was built in 1926 by the Krebs family. In 1986, an addition was added to the building which included a spacious chapel and viewing room, casket selection room, office and additional garage space. In 1998, Mr. Halverson retired and sold the business to a local funeral director, James H. Kight, present owner and operator of the funeral home. Mr. Kight has continued in the funeral home's tradition of providing dignified and professional services that cater to the personalized wishes of each family.
James H. Kight, owner and funeral director, has been a licensed funeral director in the state of West Virginia since 1975, and in Pennsylvania since 1977, having worked in the Somerset Area for the last 29 years in the profession. He is a graduate of Beckley college in West Virginia, and the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. He is a member of the First Christian Church where he serves in various capacities. He is also a member of Somerset Lodge #358 F&AM, the Rotary Club of Somerset, and National, State and Local Funeral Director's Associations. He has owned and operated the funeral home since 1998.
David K. Halverson, was born and raised in Somerset and assists with visitations and funerals. He is an avid outdoorsman and loves to hunt and fish. He is a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and is past president of the Rotary Club of Somerset. Dave is also an insurance broker through the Mosholder Insurance Agency. He has been a devoted and dedicated employee at the funeral home since 1977.
Katherine R. Kight, wife of Jim, assists with visitations, funerals and general office work. She is a member of the First Christian Church, where she serves as a deaconess and a member of the church choir. She is also an officer of Trinity Chapter #138 Order of the Eastern Star.
Elizabeth V. Kight, daughter of Jim, assists with visitations, funerals and general office work. She is a member of the First Christian Church and is also employed as an optometric assistant for Dr. Gregory Bittner in Somerset. She has been employed at the funeral home since 2001.
