David J. “Sonny” Hampe Sr. was called home March 26, 2018. Born July 1, 1935, in Somerfield to the late Harvey and Bessie (Klink) Hampe. Also preceded in death by brothers Earl, Ralph, Lloyd, Clyde and Vernon. Sisters Edith, Norma, infant Little Lucy, Margaret, Anna, Jane and Doris.Daughters Brenda and Kathy. Morning their loss is David’s loving wife, of 43 years, Ruth E. (Holiday) Hampe, son’s David J. Hampe Jr and wife Virginia, James Hampe and special friend Cindy Landis, Joseph “Marty” Hampe and wife (special daughter-in-law) June, daughters Rosie Hampe and husband Paul, Suzie Workman, Rachel Lockhard and a sister Leora Lensbouer. 13 grand children, 15 great grand children, numerous nieces and nephews and friends. David was known as a coal miner, steel and iron worker, lumber jack, mechanic, salvage man, a “Jack of All Trades”. A loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. David’s goals in life was to make someones day sunny and bright by singing a song, telling a joke, pulling a trick on you or a smile with his blue eyes or just sitting at the table drinking coffee, listening to his stories of day’s gone by. He loved walking in the woods, smelling the flowers, red birds, camping, singing songs, helping anyone and everyone he could. David loved everyone. Friends will be received from 5 to 7 Thursday and from 11am to 1 pm Friday in the Robert H. Halverson Funeral Home where a celebration of his life will immediately follow with Reverend Don Robson officiating. Interment in Silbaugh Cemetery will be private.
