Dean Mickey Obituary

Dean D. “Doc” Mickey, 99, of Somerset, Pa passed on May 25, 2026 (Memorial Day) at his home in Somerset surrounded by family.  Born January 15, 1927 in Somerset, son of Ray R. Mickey and Margaret D. Mickey. Proceeded in death by his parents, wife Patricia Jane (Colvin) Mickey, and son Patrick Mickey.  Survived by his son Daniel Colvin (Judith) Mickey of Somerset, daughters Christine Jane (Barry) Mitchell of Somerset and Rebecca Jane (Steve) Moyer of Mechanicsburg, Pa. Grandchildren Michael L. (fiancée Karen Weigle) Mitchell Somerset, Daniel J. (Katelynn) Mickey of Somerset, Courtney Jane (Bobby) Hartman of Garrett, John P. “Jack” (Melissa) Mickey of Somerset, Olivia Jane Moyer, King of Prussia, Pa, and Adam S. Moyer of Mechanicsburg, great grandchildren Kylee (Alex) Leydig, Jordan L. Hartman, and Daniel Cole Mickey.  Dean also leaves behind close friends Dwayne and Becky Yoder.  Dean was a 1944 graduate of Somerset High School. He was a graduate of The University of Pittsburgh, and the Pennsylvania College of Optometry.  Dean served in the U.S. Army 1944-46, including services in the Philippines and Japan.  His professional career was spent in his own practice as an Optometrist in Somerset.  Dean was a member and past president of the Somerset Kiwanis Club, the Somerset Borough Zoning Board, the Somerset Amateur  Radio Club, and the Somerset Coin Club.  He was a lifelong ham radio operator, and a longtime fisherman.  He was a 32nd degree member of the Somerset Masonic Lodge #358.  Dean was also a member of the New Centerville Church of God, and Somerset First Christian Church.  There will be no viewing or funeral service at Dean’s request.  A memorial service will be held by the family at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the New Centerville Church of God, 3719 Copper Kettle Hwy, Rockwood, Pa 15557.
