Evelyn J. Walters-Shafer, 92 of Somerset died September 25, 2025 at her residence. Born February 28, 1933, she is the daughter of the late Edgar and Dolly (Zimmerman) Holliday. Also preceded in death by her first husband of fifty years Gene Walters, and siblings, Miles, Paul (Miriam) Holliday, Hilda (Donald) Ream, Waneda (Donald) Meager and Margie (Blaine) Hittie. Survived by daughter Denise (Dave) Ferris, grandchildren: Cassandra (Bebe) Broughton, Gabrielle (Dave) Garrety, Sabrina (Gregory) McConnell and Madalyn (TJ) Stanchfield. Great Grandchildren: Jacob Garrety, Cameron Broughton, Cevan Broughton, Izabelle (Austin) Beattie, Cibastian Broughton, Cobyn Broughton, Lillian McConnell, Chase McConnell, Nash Stanchfield, and Crosby Stanchfield, one great great grandson Cimba and many adored nieces and nephews. Also survived by loving and devoted husband of just 9 years, George Shafer whose children and grandchildren became as dear to her as her own. Evelyn was devoted to her family. She was active at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ where she served in many roles over the years. She led VBS, the kitchen committee and chaired the stewardship committee. She owned the Polly Jane Shop in uptown Somerset for almost 20 years and was a lifetime member of O.E.S. Evelyn had a heart for serving others. There was always room at her table for one more and a strawberry-rhubarb pie hidden in her cupboard. She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her. Friends will be received from 10 to 11 Wednesday in the St. Paul’s United Church of Christ where a celebration of life will immediately follow with Reverend Matthew Deal officiating. Interment in Somerset County Memorial Park. In lieu flowers contributions may be made to St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 202 W. Union St. Somerset, Pa 15501.
