Jack L. Walters, 94, of Somerset, passed into heaven December 15, 2024 at The Patriot Senior Living Center of Somerset. Born January 27, 1930 in Somerset, the son of John and Eva (White) Walters. Preceded in death by his parents, brothers Dale and Robert; Mother and Father In-Law Charles and Melda (Rose) Petrea; and Son-In-Law, Robert E. Sarver Jr. Jack is survived by his wife of 66 years, Arlene (Petrea) Walters of Somerset, Daughter LuAnn W. Sarver of Friedens, Granddaughter Jessica M (Sarver) Freedman and husband Abe of South Fayette; Great-Granddaughters Kailee Grace and Kinsley Alyse Freedman. Jack was a 1947 graduate of Somerset High School. He served in the US Air Force where he received the Good Conduct Medal for Humane Action during the Berlin Airlift. Using his musical talent, he was assigned to the 695th Air Force Band as a Clarinetist and proudly performed with Bob Hope & Irving Berlin during a USO tour in Germany. Jack started his trucking career as an Owner-Operator, later driving for several trucking companies over the course of 30+ years before retiring as Safety Director for Smith Transport of Roaring Springs. He was a member of the Somerset County Truckers Association, Over the Hill Gang, Somerset County Band and Somerset Masonic Lodge #358. He was a devoted member of Grace United Methodist Church in Somerset. He taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, shared his musical talent, and enjoyed volunteering where ever he could help. He enjoyed fishing, photography, motorcycles and sending greeting cards to everyone! Jack loved people--family, friends, neighbors, and complete strangers. He always had a smile and kind word for everyone he met. The family would like to thank the staff at The Patriot for their care over the past year. Friends will be received from 11 – 12 noon Saturday December 28th in the Grace United Methodist Church where a celebration of his life will immediately follow with Reverend Eric Raygor officiating.
