On Friday, September 2, 2022, Joan Ruth Cyga passed away peacefully at the age of 94. She was born December 12, 1927 in Hyndman, Pa, the daughter of the late Ralph and Nellie Welsh. Preceded in death by husband of 72 years, Chester F. Cyga and daughter Karen (Cyga) Campbell.Joan graduated from Somerset High School in 1945. She later worked as a teacher’s aide for Sipesville Elementary School until her retirement in 1995. Joan loved to laugh and treasured time spent with family and friends. To the delight of those around her, she would burst into song at any given moment. Her other interests included crafts, painting, and watching Westerns. She also baked the best apple dumplings and pierogies from scratch.She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.Joan is survived by three children: Sharon (Cyga) and Robert Welsh, Jill (Cyga) and Luke Rosenbaum, Chester (Chet) Cyga Jr and Anita Cyga, grandchildren Heidi Roman, Sean Shaulis, Lani Hilton, Eilis Rosenbaum, Aubrie Lambert, Laurel Koval, Onora Cable and numerous great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, retired Lt. Col. Tedd Welsh.The family would like to thank all the staff at the McCullough Place, The Atrium, and at AseraCare Hospice for their care and compassion.Friends will be received on Tuesday, Sept 6th at St Peter’s Catholic Church in Somerset from 10-11 am with Mass directly following. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Somerset Humane Society P. O. Box 182 Somerset, PA 15501. Arrangements under the direction of the Robert H. Halverson Funeral Home.
