John Baker Obituary

John H. Baker, born December 25, 1925 in Somerset Twp., passed away February 20, 2019 at Heritage Assisted Living, in Somerset. Son of Charles E.  and Lucy R. (Kimmel) Baker. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth L (Nichol) Baker to whom he was married to for 62 years and brothers and sisters, Mary M. Hay, E. Jean Smith, Harry James, Pearle Jane, Elmer Franklin, Harvey Edward, Margaret Elizabeth, Mae Gertrude and Clark Eugene. Survived by children, Ronald C. Baker and wife Cynthia (Long) of Harrisburg, Charles I. Baker of Somerset and Sandra J. Miller and husband John (Jack I.) of Berlin.  Grandchildren, Melissa A. Baker (Michael Melhorn), Kimberly S. Baker (Richard  Fino), Barbra J. Baker (James Guilliams), and Robert J. C. Baker (Samantha Booher). Great grandchildren, Connor and Kyra Melhorn, Victoria, Gerald and Abigail Fino, Michael, Jonathan and Madison Guilliams, Chloe, Savannah Henry, Autumn Booher, Zaiden, Skylynn, Jaylynn, Calob and Xion Baker.  Also numerous nieces and nephews. John attended Somerset High School, served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, worked in farming, mining and road construction.  After the war, he went to farming school and electronics school in Pittsburgh and trained as a TV and Radio Technician. He started Baker’s TV Sales and Service in 1957 and worked until his  retirement . He attended Husband United Methodist Church until it closed and then attended Grace United Methodist Church.  He was a lifetime member of Somerset VFW.  The family would like to give a very special thank you to all his caregivers at Heritage & Via Quest Hospice. Friends will be received from 1 to 7 pm Sunday in the Robert H. Halverson Funeral Home and from 10 to 11 am Monday in the Grace United Methodist Church where services will immediately follow with Reverend Eric Raygor officiating. Interment in Weller Cemetery.  Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1100 Liberty Ave., Suite E-201, Pittsburgh, PA 15222.
