John Barchey

After a life spent faithfully serving The Lord, Pastor John Barchey Jr. passed away on November 24th, 2021. His biggest desire for an obituary was to simply state that he was a Christian who loved the Lord. He is preceded in death by his parents, John Sr. and Dorothy (Custer) Barchey.   He is survived by wife Patricia (Peck) Barchey and sisters Alice Lee Stansbury and Kay Ogline (Fred).  He was born in Somerset on March 22nd, 1935 and enjoyed his formative years in the same town.  Graduating from Somerset Area Senior High School in 1953, Pastor John never forgot his community. He would return decades later to minister to the congregation of First Christian Church.  He devoted eight years to serving this country in the United States Navy.  Four of those years were active duty.  In 1960, Pastor John married Patricia, a union that would last for 61 years.  The two built a life together serving in ministry after his graduation from Minnesota Bible College in 1964.  Pastor John was devoted to God’s Kingdom as he served at Vanderbilt Church of Christ, Winchester Church of Christ, and First Christian Church of Somerset.  At each church, he made known his love for God, his country, and his family.  Altogether, Pastor John devoted 35 years to the ministry.  However, those who knew him will always remember that his love for God and his passion for evangelism continued long past his days on any payroll.  He truly lived to share God’s love with those around him.  He will be sorely missed by those who were blessed by his friendship and love, but he has gone on ahead and waits for us to join him in his Father’s Kingdom. Visitation at First Christian Church 139 East Main St Somerset Pa 15501, Sunday November 28, 2021 from3:00pm – the time of service at 5:00pm with Pastor Dan Nicksich and Pastor Brent Williams. Masks are Required.  Arrangements under the direction of the ROBERT H. HALVERSON FUNERAL HOME.
