John A. Stanga 89, of Somerset, died January 29, 2022 at his residence. Born September 11, 1932, in Quecreek, he is the son of the late Leno and Mary Elizabeth (Stefani) Stanga. Also preceded in death by a brother Irvin and an infant brother. Survived by his wife Martha (Miller) Stanga, son James Stanga and wife Gina of Sipesville, daughter Jodie Basinger and husband Douglas of Fairhope and grandchildren; Brett Stanga, Devon and Lauren Basinger and Brianna Aultz. John was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Somerset Eagles 1801 and the VFW. He was a Korea Army veteran, a founding member of the Somerset Wrestling Boosters, an avid Steeler fan, hunter, fisherman and outdoors man. He was a master gardener and his specialty was growing tomatoes. John worked 28 years for the Acme Market, was a parking valet at Somerset Hospital and worked for Ed Witt Painting until he started Stanga Fire Extinguisher Service. At John’s request there will be no viewing. Family will receive friends from 4 - 8 pm Friday February 11, 2022 in the Robert H. Halverson funeral Home where a memorial service will immediately follow with Father Angelo Patti celebrant. Contributions may be made to St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 433 W.
