Larry Hearn Obituary

Larry N Hearn, 79, of Friedens, passed away peacefully at home December 25, 2025.  Born October 20, 1946, in Somerset to Charles and Anna (Dimpfl) Hearn.  Preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Richard Hearn, Lois Pacifico, Patricia Maurer, Delmont Hearn, Robert Hearn, Eleanor Gilbert, Arnold Hearn and William Hearn. Larry is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sherayn (Mosholder) and children: Karyn Phillips of Las Vegas, NV, and Chad Hearn of Somerset; his two grandchildren, Drew and Leah Hearn, both of Somerset; and siblings, Barbara (Donald) Stanton and Phyllis (Robert) Cane. Larry was a 1966 graduate of Somerset Area High School. Following graduation, he was called to serve his country in the United States Army and was assigned to Company C, 2d Battalion (Airborne), 8th Cavalry.  During his service in Vietnam, Larry was awarded the Bronze Star with Valor for Heroism in ground combat, the Bronze Star for Meritorious Achievement in ground operations against hostile forces, the Air Medal for Meritorious Achievement while participating in aerial flight, and a Purple Heart for injuries sustained while in service.  He also received the Combat Infantryman Badge, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon, the Sharpshooter Badge and the Marksman Badge.  In addition to the commendations received from the United States Army, Larry also received the Gallantry Cross with Silver Star for Courage in Action from The Republic of VIET-NAM CONG-HOA. After his meritorious service in the U.S. Army, Larry returned to Somerset and started his own business as an owner-operator truck driver. For the next 35 years, Monday through Friday he could be found somewhere between Ohio, Michigan, Virginia or wherever steel or grain needed to be delivered.  In 1989, as President of the Somerset County Truckers Association, Larry was appointed by Governor Robert P. Casey of Pennsylvania as a member of the Motor Carrier Advisory Committee.  His appointment was then extended by Governor Thomas J. Ridge through 1997 to continue his service on the committee.  Once it was time to retire, never one to sit still, Larry needed to find things to keep busy.  Amongst the things he enjoyed most were going for coffee in the morning with his friends, driving the tractor and helping out on the farm, tinkering around in his garage, working in his garden and going out to dinner with his wife. Arrangements are entrusted to Robert H. Halverson Funeral Home.  All services will be private in accordance with Larry’s wishes. Larry will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
