Ruth Sicheri Obituary

Ruth Jeanette (Pile) Sicheri died on November 11, 2020 from Covid at the Patriot in Somerset after being a resident there for almost 3 years. She was born April 19, 1921 in Somerset. Ruthie was preceded in death by her parents, George and Elsie (Schrock) Pile and her sister, Ruby Palmer. Ruthie grew up in Friedens, PA and graduated in 1938, the same year she was elected May Queen of which she liked to tell the story. She married Aldo Sicheri in 1942 until his death in 1976. They raised two children, Connie (Sicheri) Kolesko of Bolton, CT and George Edward Sicheri of Somerset, who preceded her in 2016. Ruth and Aldo ran the grocery store in Quecreek, PA for many years. Her daughter Connie has many memories of delivering grocery orders to the residents of Quecreek and surrounding areas She lived in Quecreek until 2013 and moved to the Towers in Somerset. Ruthie often talked of growing up on the farm in Friedens. She told stories of driving the mail truck during WW II. After running the grocery store, she was a nutrition aide in Somerset County. She also worked at Laurel Mt. Ski Resort. She was always involved in her community, children’s schools and activities and the American Cancer Society. In Ruth’s later years, she enjoyed dancing and traveling with her companion, Edward Barndt. She enjoyed life to the fullest and had many friends. She was known for her red hair with the nickname “Big Red”. Besides her daughter Connie, Ruthie is survived by her daughter-in-law Joanna Sicheri of Somerset, her beloved grandchildren, Justine Kolesko (Matt Groebner of Arvada, CO, Megan Sicheri of Pittsburgh, Chelsea Sicheri of Somerset, Abby Sicheri of Philadelphia and great grandson, Nathaniel Groebner of Arvada, CO. Also her nieces Jean Chaney of Chester, WV and Judy Uphouse of Columbus, OH and her nephew Ronald Palmer of Richmond, VA. Ruthie was a long time member of Rayman Church of the Brethren in Friedens, PA. It was a special place to her. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the Rayman Church, 999 Welsh Hill Rd. Friedens, PA 15541. Her family would like to thank the nurses and staff on the third floor of the Patriot for taking care of her while a resident there. We celebrate her life of 99 years. She did not reach her goal of 100, but her family hopes to celebrate her 100th next year. Also please show acts of kindness towards each other as she would like you to do that.
