Shannon Smith

Shannon W. Smith, 74, died December 30, 2017 in Brockton, MA, after an extended illness. He was born October 10,1943, in Somerset the son of the late Shannon Smith and Kathryn (Lint) Smith. His father was killed during WWII, and he and his mother made their home with his grandparents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Earl B.Lint. Shannon was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, and served as the shurch's apprentice organist during the late 1950's and early 1960's. He was a 1961 graduate of Somerset Area Senior High School, and received his B.A. from Waynesburg University in 1965 and his M.A. from Ruthers University. In the late 1960's he taught English in LaPaz, Bolivia. He relocated to Boston in 1973, and received his M.ed. from Suffoolk University, and was a doctoral candidate. He pursued an administrative and research academic career, which included employment a HarvardUniversity and a deanship at Northeastern University. Due to health issues, he retired in the 1990s. During his retirement, he visited Somerset, and enjoyed music and literature, and times spent with good friends. He is survived by several cousins: Sandra L. Trent and Earl W.F. Lint, Somerset: Janet L. Friedline and Douglas R. Weimer, Washington, DC; and Donna L. Pletcher, Spring Hill, FL. A time of recollection and remenberance will be held graveside at Husband Cenetery (Weimer plot), on July 23, at 11:00 AM. Contributions may be made to St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 202 W.
