Shirley Brocht Obituary

Shirley Ann (Airesman) Brocht of Rockwood, 89 years, died Aug 6, 2025 in Conemaugh Hospital, Johnstown.  Born Dec 16th 1935 in Edie (Lincoln Twp) to Clark R. and Ida V. (Faidley) Airesman.  Granddaughter of Franklin and Emma (Ash) Airesman, and Minnie (Faidley) Hoffman and Frank Hemminger.  Step grandfather Edward Hoffman.  School days were spent in the Edie School, the BellTown School, and graduating from Somerset Area High School class of 1954.  She attended the Hammond School of Beauty in Johnstown.  She worked at the Beauty Box in Somerset as a Beautician.  Preceded in death by parents, grandparents, and the following brothers and sisters and year of death, Arlene 1934, Gloria 1940, Roy 1989, Emma Catherine Gardner 1996, Ray April 2001, Floyd October 2001, Delores 2007.  Shirley married James Calvin Brocht on September 22, 1956 in the Sipesville Church of the Brethren.  Jim preceded her in death on Febuary 21, 2020 just before covid hit the nation.  Survived by children Clark Roy and Teresa Ann both of Rockwood area, brother in law Jerry Brocht and wife Nancy (Rush) of Wheeling WV.  Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins by the dozens, and many friends, and even a few that called her Grandma “B”.  She also enjoyed the Agway group.  Shirley’s home growing up was the Airesman Store in Edie.  Even though it’s been closed for 49 years, many persons of Lincoln Township remember the little country store.  Today you know the farm as Airesman Orchard.  In later years she was known for her big dinners she would serve to family and friends and the “sacred harp” gathering at Christmas when the house rang with music.  She enjoyed painting. Jim would make the frames in his woodshop. She was the treasurer of the Historic Mt. Union church Association, secretary of the Ridgeview (old) Cemetery association in Garrett.  Past Chaplain of the Forbes Road Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution using Henry Ash II as her ancestor. Charter member of the Mt. Union Church Camp #502, auxiliary to the Union Veterans of the Civil War, Woman’s Relief Corp (Auxiliary to the Grand Army of the Republic) Comrade Gabrio Corp #136, honorary life member of the New Centerville and Rural Volunteer Fire Company, the annual reunion of the Farmers and Thresherman’s Jubilee in New Centerville where for over 45 years she was “Mrs. Information” for the many persons that called from all over the United States seeking Jubilee Information, life member of the Rockwood Area Historical Society, former member of the Casselman UM Church, member of the Christ UM Church in Rockwood until its closing in August 2023, she was also a leader of the Upper Turkeyfoot 4H club in Casselman in the 1970’s. Thank you to the many friends that came to visit, sent many good things to eat, sent flowers, prayers, and cards.  Friends will be received from 4-8 Thursday and from 1-3 and 6-8 Friday in the Robert H. Halverson Funeral Home.  Services will be held 1pm Saturday in the historic Mt. Union Church 1988 Turkeyfoot Trail Road Rockwood, Pa 15557 with the Reverend Valerie Stark and the Reverend Caroline Penick.  Viewing at the church before the service 11:30-12:45. Internment in the Mt. Union Cemetery.  Contributions may be made to the Mt. Union Church 1428 Casselman Rd Rockwood, Pa 15557.  The following groups will have their memorial services: Thursday 6:30pm The Woman’s Relief Corp, 7:00pm Auxiliary to Union Veterans.  Friday 7:00pm The Forbes Road Chapter DAR.   Arrangements under the direction of the Robert H.
