Ward L. Burkett

Ward L Burkett entered peacefully into the Lord’s presence on his birthday, December 11, 2025, surrounded by those who had gathered to celebrate with him. Born in Somerset, Pennsylvania in 1932 to the late Joseph and Ruth Burkett, Ward was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 72 years, Violet. Ward is survived by cherished daughter, Eunice (Lee) Gilreath of Sedona, Arizona, as well as his dear friend, Matthew (Jillian) Costea and their baby daughter, Ruthie. Ward graduated from Somerset Area High School in 1951. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, attaining the rank of Corporal. Following his time in the military, he found his calling in sales, eventually founding Ward Burkett Bit Service. Ward loved his work and was immensely proud of the business he built, with Violet faithfully by his side. A devoted member of First Christian Church in Somerset, Ward served in many leadership roles over the years, including Deacon and Elder. Ward’s lively spirit, generosity, and hospitality will continue to leave a meaningful imprint on all who knew him. He will be fondly remembered as an avid outdoorsman who shared his love of hunting and fishing with everyone he encountered. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Ward’s dedicated private duty caregivers as well as the staff at both The Patriot and UPMC Hospice for their care and compassion. Honoring Ward’s wishes, funeral services will be private. Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to Somerset County Camp Cadet 177 Menser Road, Somerset, PA.
